Baby Sitting

We are able at this time to offer baby sitting in the Beach Apartments. We are currently organising some of the village ladies in Kalavassos to participate when required. Please ask Chris when you book if you might be needing a baby sitter so that arrangements can be made and Chris will be able to supply the details.

Mountain Trails

The closest trails to our village are trail 3 The national forest park of Athalassa which is located on the outskirts of the Capital Nicosia and trail 5  Machairas Forest - Lefkara - Kato Drys - Vavatsinias which is very near Kalavasos.  Trail 8 Kyparissia - Germasogeia Dam is about 20 minutes drive from Kalavasos. All the others are at most an hours drive from Kalavassos.

For those interested in herbs the new Herb Garden in Kalavasos is well worth a visit. You will be offered 3 different kinds of teas to try free of charge before you buy. Open every day except Sundays. See every step of the process from planting to drying.

Fishing and Diving

There are quite a few places to fish in Cyprus, both the sea and man made dams offer quite a few choices. Amateur fishing and Fishing in Dams is outlined below.

Diving is also very popular in Cyprus, with a number of diving schools having excellent reputations.  The most famous wreck in Cyprus waters is the 'Zenobia' which sank in 1980 The 172m (570) wreck is a must for all divers visiting the island.  The Akamas peninsula is now earmarked as a marine park and the Akrotiri Fish Reserve near Limassol is very popular. (Akrotiri is about 30 minutes from Kalavasos).

Amateur Fishing

Spear-fishing, angling, fishing with vertical lines (long lines with up to one hundred hooks and up to three fish traps) or trolling are the permitted fishing methods. Fishing with nets and other commercial methods are not permitted.  There are quite a few species of fish which can be caught: sea-breams, groupers, amber jacks, sea-perch etc.

Cyprus Wines

There are two large wine festivals in Cyprus every year which are great fun
Limassol wine festival which is scheduled for late August every year. 

This year (2005) it will be from  August 30 - September 11th

and Afamia Grape festival in October

 

Coming Soon We will be starting our own Cyprus Wines site to provide yet another service for our guests. Cyprus produces some of the best wines in the world and for those wine lovers we will be able to plan some wonderful tours to experience the very best of Cyprus wines.

  • For Water sports etc, available at Governors beach but Limassol only 20 minutes drive

  • Water park in Limassol (20 minutes)

  • Diving available in Limassol

  • Tours arranged if required.

  • Carnival time is a fun time go to Limassol or Larnaca to see the fun!

  • The Limassol wine festival usually on end of August beginning of September, free flowing wine.

  •   June:          Water festival - Kataclismos

  •   July-Aug:  Shakespeare at Curium also Music concerts- traditional and modern

  •   August:      Moonlight concert (full moon music and dance).

  •   August:      Assumption day on 23rd of August at Panayia Amirous Monastery.

  •   Sept:           Wine Festival on September in Limassol (Public garden).

  •   Sept:         Festival of the Holy Cross at Omodos village

Our Seasons and What to Wear

  • January: Winter time for Cypriots. Autumn for our European visitors! 

    • It may rain occasionally yet the promise of glorious sunshine is still there.

    • Winter clothing-not heavy coats

    • Outdoor activities and excursions can be enjoyed.

  • February: A little unpredictable.  There is the possibility of exceptionally warm days, occasional rain, and mild day time temperatures . Almond trees in bloom. It can be quite cold however in the evenings.

    • Winter apparel.

    • Conditions are ideal for snow skiing on Troodos mountain

    • Sometimes the Swallows arrive early.

  • March: Better than February but there may be a few cool days  There is the possibility of exceptionally warm days

    • Spring apparel.

    • Spring is definitely with us.  Great weather for walking.  Not too hot!

    • The Swallows arrive

  • April, May: Days are pleasantly warm, but temperatures may fall a bit at night.

    • Medium-weight and summer apparel: Light woollies or long sleeved cotton for the evenings.

    • Excellent season for those who prefer to enjoy nature, as the countryside is green and flowers are in blossom.
       

  • June, July, August: Warmest months of summer

    • Very light weight summer clothing.

    • Ideal for swimming and all beach/water activities.
       

  • September, October: Warm days, cool October evenings.

    • Light weight apparel for the day and medium-weight for the evenings in October.

    • Swimming and water-sports are still at their best.
       

  • November: Pleasantly warm days

    • Medium-weight apparel. Light Woollies.

    • Ideal weather for autumn travel. Lunches in the open-air still a delight. Sunbathing and even swimming can still be enjoyed, as well as most outdoor sports.
       

  • December: Winter time for Cypriots... Autumn for our foreign visitors!
